Geshe Lobsang Nima
2025 San Antonio Buddhism Teachings
January 5 – 19, 2025
Picture
Geshe Lobsang Nima was born in Kham, Tibet. He began his Buddhist studies and practices at Gaden Dhondup Ling monastery when he was thirteen years old. Motivated by a wish to study and practice a profound level of Buddhism, in 1992 he and a small group of fellow monks escaped from Chinese-occupied Tibet. They walked from Tibet to India in the harsh winter months, and eventually Geshe-la joined Drepung Loseling monastery in South India.
After several years of Buddhist studies in the monastery, in 2010, he took the next step and joined the Gelgupa University, where he underwent all examinations to achieve his Geshe Lharampa doctoral degree in Buddhist philosophy. He was awarded his Geshe Lharampa degree in front of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Drepung Monastic University in 2015, and later completed tantric studies at Gyuto Tantric College in Dharamshala, India.
Geshe Nima has served the monastic community in a variety of positions. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate students at Drepung Loseling Monastic University. He also served as secretary of Drepung Loseling Educational Fund, and editor of the Drepung Loseling monastic university journal. He served as the Principal of the Drepung Loseling Monastery academic school, and the monastery Disciplinarian. In 2025 Geshe-la will serve as a guest professor at the University of Minnesota.
We are delighted to announce that Geshe Nima will teach an important text that he feels is a succinct Buddhist transmission that will prepare students for profound practice such as mahamudra: Rain of Accomplishments – Verses That Incorporates the Four Mindfulnesses from an Instruction on the View of the Middle Way by the Seventh Dalai Lama, Kalzang Gyatso.
