11:00 am Talk by Ven. Khenpo Sangay Dorje

Come join us as we welcome Ven. Khenpo Sangay Dorje. He was born in a small Buddhist community in a Northeastern Himalayan region of Nepal. At the age of ten he enrolled into Namdroling Monastery in south India. (see bio below)  In addition to a Dharma talk he will describe his work as secretary of Ngagyur Memorial School in Kathmandu, established by his late Guru Khenchen Tashi Tsering Rinpoche. He and his team provide free quality education, clothing, food and accommodation for more than 600 underprivileged children from Himalayan region of Nepal.

Ven. Khenpo Sangay Dorje was born in Helambu, small Buddhist indigenous community in Sindhupalchok district, Northeastern Himalayan region of Nepal. As the age of ten, he expressed an interest in becoming monk thus he was enrolled into Namdroling Monastery in south India under the guidance of H.H. Chatral Rinpoche. He entered Namdorling monastery in the year 1994 and received basic Buddhist studies for six years. He later learned Buddhist rites and rituals for several years in junior school. In 2001 he enrolled in Ngagyur Nyingma Institute, the prestigious monastic collage of Namdroling Monastery, and studied advance Buddhist philosophy and practice, and successfully completed the nine-year course in 2010. He was then conferred upon the title of Lopen (Equivalent to Master Degree on Buddhist Philosophy).

He has received many minor and major teachings of Buddhist philosophy through various well-known Tibetan Buddhist masters Such as H.H. Dalai Lama, H.H. Penor Rinpoche, H.H. Chatral Rinpoche, etc. After, completing his studies he was appointed as teacher in Monastic School where he taught Buddhist studies to monks for several years. Later on, He was conferred the Title of Khenpo (Doctorate in Buddhist Philosophy) by H.H. Karma Kuchen Rinpoche the 12th throne holder of Palyul Lineage. As his knowledge in English was much appreciated, he was appointed as resident teacher in one of the Dharma center in Indonesia. Where he taught Buddhist Philosophy to many Indonesian students.Since then he has been giving teachings and assisting many Palyul international students to gain deeper understanding upon Buddhist philosophy in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia. Currently, he is administering as secretary at Ngagyur Memorial School in Kathmandu, established by his late Guru Khenchen Tashi Tsering Rinpoche. He and his team are working hard to provide free quality and equitable education, clothing, food and accommodation for more than six hundred underprivileged children from Himalayan region of Nepal.
